Tottenham vs. Aston Villa: Premier League – Match Preview

Aston Villa kick start their first Premier League campaign in three years with a difficult away trip to Tottenham.

Spurs added both Ryan Sessegnon and Giovani Lo Celso on transfer deadline day; however missed out on Juventus forward Paulo Dybala.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men finished fourth in the 2018-19 campaign and reached their first ever Champions League final.

Aston Villa earned promotion via the play-offs, after beating Derby County 2-1 at Wembley.

The likes of Tom Heaton, Wesley, Trezeguet and Tyrone Mings have all joined the club over the summer, with Villa spending more than £100million.

Tottenham have a good recent record against Aston Villa, losing just one of their last 15 Premier League matches against Saturday’s opponents.

Team news
Both of Spurs deadline day signings are unlikely to be involved here, however fellow summer addition Tanguy Ndombele will start.

Juan Foyth and Heung Min Son carry suspensions over from last season and will miss out. Danny Rose and Christian Eriksen were heavily linked with moves away from the club, so it will be interesting to see if both feature.

Three of Villa’s back four are likely to be new signings, with Heaton also set to debut in goal.

Captain Jack Grealish remains Villa’s best player and he will start in midfield alongside Niall McGinn who signed a new deal this week.

Expected starting XI’s
Tottenham (4-3-3): Lloris; Walker-Peters, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose; Winks, N’Dombele, Eriksen; Moura, Kane, Lamela
Aston Villa (4-3-3): Heaton; Guilbert, Mings, Engels, Targett; Hourihane, McGinn, Grealish; Jota, Wesley, El-Ghazi
