Newcastle United were formed in 1892 and have forever played at St James Park (although the ground’s name has changed frequently)
The club’s greatest period was in the decade of the 1900’s, winning three league championships. Since 1910 Newcastle have only won one top flight title and the greatest trophy of all has eluded them since 1927.
Newcastle have won six F.A Cup trophies, the latest coming in 1955, which was also the last time the club won a major domestic trophy.
In Europe, Newcastle have won an Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1969. They beat the Hungarian side Ujpesti 6-2 in the final. The Geordie side also have an Intertoto Cup success to their name, which came in 2006.
Rafael Benitez guided Newcastle back to the Premier League at the first attempt in the 16-17 campaign, as they won the Championship title. They acheived a top half finish in their first season back in the top flight.
